As part of a group photography exhibition, I was asked to create a visual response to the project title ‘Dream Keeper’. Dreaming causes specific areas of the brain to spark ‘hot zones’ of high frequency electrical activity. Using a high-speed camera, I shot underwater explosions and then slowed the footage down to depict a very personal interpretation of the physiological brain activity that happens during the ‘dream state’. Working with the three elements of image, sound and prose, I wanted to draw the viewer in by shooting an art piece that conveyed a heightened state of brain activity and awareness. I wanted to create an ethereal, benign world, separate but ever present, infinite and mysterious - inside an entrancing realm of heavenly light and sound. The artwork was exhibited at the Process Dream Keeper Exhibition as a moving image art installation alongside a series of still images.
